PEOPLE’S INSTITUTE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE AND ART

The People's Institute, established in 1897, and revived in 2024 as The People’s Institute for the Advancement of Science and Art (PASA), has historically served as a hub for educational programs and civic engagement. The PASA’s revival codifies a relationship that was present at its founding between Henry Street Settlement–with Lillian Wald, founder of Henry Street, as a founding member of the institute–and The Cooper Union. PASA allows students, faculty, and researchers to engage in joint-participatory and community-engaged projects and programs across Cooper and Abrons Art Center at Henry Street.
